These plants are pretty hardy imo
smooth or hard...they'll continue to bloom.
The key to getting RED colors ultimately lies in your lighting and substrate.
I do 10 hours for light Hygger LED and have dirt/akadama/fluorite red/clay mix as substrate

PH - 6-7
TDS - 160-180
KH - 4-6
GH - 5-7
I keep a colony of Neocaridina Shrimp, a squad of Amanos along with my green neon tetras. They don't touch the Rotalas!
**DISCLAIMER**
-My tank contains Copepods and Planorbis Arnoldis! They may travel with your plants so be sure to sterilize if you don't want them!
-Please do your research on how to take care of Rotalas!
